Mr. Gurney founded The Gurney Law Firm after serving as a Wake County Criminal Magistrate. As a judicial official in Raleigh, Mr. Gurney saw first hand the importance of a fair and just legal system.
He received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University where he double majored in Finance and Philosophy. While at East Carolina, Mr. Gurney was in the honors program and was a member of the Deans List.
After graduating from East Carolina, Mr. Gurney pursued his Juris Doctorate at The Appalachian School of Law where he was a member of the Dean’s List. He also received over 120 hours of training in Civil Mediation with practicum training in Alternative Dispute Resolution & Mediation.
Mr. Gurney also studied law at the prestigious Oxford University in England where he pursued an active course load in Family Law and Oil and Gas Law.
During law school Mr. Gurney was active in the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity International and the ASL NC Bar Association – Trial Lawyers, where he held a Leadership position as Ambassador of Legal Affairs.
During law school Mr. Gurney interned with the Fairfax County Public Defenders, in Northern VA, where he worked on serious felony charges and appeals.
The majority of Mr. Gurney’s career as a Wake County Magistrate dealt with misdemeanors, felonies, domestic violence, DWI and traffic charges, search warrants and initial appearances.
Mr. Gurney is admitted to practice law in all counties in NC and in the Eastern District of North Carolina Federal Court.
